Despite the fact that Coach Mike McCarthy was gushing over 25 year old tight end Jermichael Finley at his end of the season press conference, saying he was a “talented young man” with a “great work ethic”, Finley is going to cost a pretty penny for the 2013 season and possibly beyond that if he remains a Packer. Although getting praised by the head coach who also happens to be the offensive coordinator almost guarantees you a spot on next year’s team Ted Thompson, the general manager of the Packers, will have to make a tough decision following the 2012-2013 season. Important players like B.J. Raji and Clay Matthews are going to need expensive contracts soon and superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers will likely be expecting a contract worth upwards of $20million dollars a year. After some number crunching Thompson will likely find there is no room for an inconsistent player such as Jermichael Finley to be asking for a long term contract valued around $10million a year. Combine that with the fact that it is a priority to resign up-and-coming cornerback Sam Shields this off-season and it is no wonder we might be looking towards Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert for help.
